About our School

Hampton Roads Soo Bahk Do was established in 1991. We are a nationally certified Do Jang (school) in good standing with the US Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation. Our Federation has over 300 schools in the United States.

James Donnelly, Chief Instructor and School Director of Hampton Roads Karate, has over 41 years of training and teaching experience. He is a 7th Dan (Black Belt) and is a nationally certified Master Level Instructor (Sa Bom). Sa Bom Nim Donnelly began his Martial Arts training in 1966 as a student of Mr. Chuck Norris.

Under the direction and guidance of his instructor, Sa Bom Nim Victor Martinov (8th Dan) since 1970, Master Donnelly has trained and taught nationally and internationally receiving training at the international headquarters in Seoul, Korea in 1989, 1995 and 2000 under the guidance of the Founder Hwang Kee and Grandmaster H. C. Hwang.
